Professional Biography
Dr Rod Cansdell grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has seen it grow and change substantially. He has seen Pincushion ‘Island’ firmly attached to the northern end of Maroochydore Beach, become an ‘island again, and then attach itself to the North Shore, as it is at present. Being a keen surfer spending much of his time at the beach, he pursued his passion at University, completing a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and working as a coastal engineer for the Queensland Government.
A change of heart and interests saw him return to university to complete an MBBS and subsequently his specialty training in anaesthesia both on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane. As part of this training, Rod completed a short fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia at the Royal Children’s Hospital at Herston. He now has a diverse portfolio of anaesthesia lists including general and bariatric surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology and gastroenterology.
Other Interests
Kid’s sport on the weekends takes up much of his time, but he still manages to get out for a wave here and there or a ride on the bike. And the dog, don’t forget the dog. My kids would kill me if they knew I left her out.
