Professional Biography
Dr Cocciante obtained his medical degree from Cape Town University before moving to Australia and specialising in Anaesthesia in Melbourne. On completion of his anaesthetic training, he worked as an anaesthetist with AusAid in Tonga for a year in 2011. He returned to Australia in 2012 where he worked as a consultant anaesthetist at Western Health and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne till 2018. He then moved up to the Sunshine Coast where he currently works at the Sunshine Coast University Public Hospital (SCUH) and in private practice.
He has been a supervisor of training for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists since 2013 and has held deputy director positions in both anaesthetic departments in Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast. He has been the clinical lead for paediatric anaesthesia at SCUH for the past 5 years and is the current co-lead of simulation education.
Dr Cocciante is the convenor of numerous educational courses and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals.
