Anaesthesia for; Maxillofacial, ENT, Paediatric, Vascular, Orthopaedics, General, Trauma, Neuro, Upper GI and Hepatic surgeries. He is also adept at using regional anaesthesia techniques to decrease intra-operative and postoperative opiate requirements.
Professional Biography
Morgan has anaesthetic Fellowships from both the UK (FRCA) and Australia (FANZCA). Medical school was in Aberdeen, Scotland followed by his Anaesthesia training in the North West of England. Morgan completed specialist training in paediatric, neurosurgical and vascular anaesthesia as well as his first Fellowship in Simulation and Medical Education. After moving to Sydney, Australia in 2011, Morgan completed further Fellowships in: Intensive Care Medicine; a second in Simulation and Medical Education; upper GI and hepatic surgery and worked for the Sydney Helicopter Emergency Medical Service before moving up to the Sunshine Coast in 2015.
Since arriving on “the Coast” Morgan has worked for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service as a Consultant Anaesthetist. Within this department he has held the roles of Acting Medical Director and Acting Deputy Medical Director, Supervisor of Training (current) and holds a Griffith University appointment. He is active in the education and safety spaces utilising his extensive simulation experience to systems test patient journeys and new services prior to their launch.
Morgan also works for LifeFlight Retrieval Medicine as a Retrieval Consultant. It is a privilege to treat severely injured or ill patients whilst transferring them to specialist centres. Give the LifeFlight helicopter a wave next time you see it, if he can he will give you a wave back.
Morgan is a lead instructor on the Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises course. EMAC is a mandatory course for all Australian and New Zealand anaesthetic trainees. This course teaches your anaesthetist how to effectively manage in theatre emergencies and optimise the actions of the theatre team during these rare occasions.
Other Interests
Morgan enjoys the outdoors and is often training for adventure races whilst trying to tire out his English Staffy and Border Collie. Hanging out with his partner, stepson and friends is his other love.
