Professional Biography
Dr Tragen studied medicine at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom graduating in 2000. As a junior doctor he worked in north west England before realising a lifelong ambition to visit Australia. He worked for 12 months at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2003. In 2004 Dr Tragen commenced formal basic anaesthetic training with the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia, based in Nottingham, UK. He completed this basic training in 2006 and passed the Royal College of Anaesthetists Primary examination. In October 2006, Dr Tragen emigrated to Queensland and was able to continue his anaesthetic training, in Toowoomba, Cairns, and finally in Townsville In 2012. Dr Tragen completed his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anesthetists, and stayed on in Townsville for his first consultant post.
In 2014 Dr Tragen moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast, and has worked mostly in the public sector since then. His clinical interests lie in anaesthesia for reconstructive surgery and ophthalmic procedures. Dr Tragen’s regular private work is mostly anaesthesia for maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery. He has worked with these surgeons regularly for over 5 years and enjoys an excellent professional relationship with them.
Dr Tragen is an instructor for the Australian Resuscitation Council’s Advanced Life Support courses and regularly teaches medical and nursing colleagues. He is also a co director of Sunshine Coast Medical Education, providing skills workshops and high fidelity simulation training for anaesthetists.
Other Interests
In his spare time, Dr Tragen enjoys indoor skydiving, skiing badly, playing and listening to music. He will gladly receive any book recommendations from colleagues and patients!
